đ° $300K base, ex-OpenAI CTO, and a sleepy new AI baby đś
Plus, lots of founding, remote, and entry-level jobs!
Hi, everyone! It me. Jordan.
If youâre here, I love you. Really. So does Bacon.
And if you love me (and this weekly goodness) drop me a line and tell me what you love, what we can do better, and what is missing that you really, really wanna see. I need some feedback about whatâs working, and whatâs not working!!!
Company spotlight: Thinking Machines
OpenAIâs former CTO Mira Murati is recently out of stealth with her ultra buzzy startup Thinking Machines. Their first product, Tinker, a training API for researchers, is still blinking its sleepy little eyes in a brand new world.
They need a product engineer, a data infrastructure engineer, and an infrastructure generalist. Thanks to their $2 billion seed announced this summer (omg it makes my eyes hurt to look at), these roles start at $300K.
Toby Talks (expert advice on landing that next j.o.b.)
I like this post from Anirban Kundu of Polymath Qapital, who writes about what gets evaluated in hiring (agency, attitude, and aptitude) but what really matters:
Agency: âIf youâre not happening to things, things are happening to you. Donât wait for things to happen to you.â
Attitude: âAgency gets you moving. Attitude keeps you moving.â
Aptitude: This is table stakes. You canât be an engineer unless you can code, âbut once you cross the baseline threshold, what separates extraordinary careers from ordinary ones is not IQ points or rĂŠsumĂŠs. Itâs agency and attitude.â
Real talk you need rn
âDonât be a generic âfullâstack developerâ or âproduct manager.â Be the person who does [specific thing] for [specific industry] using [specific approach]. Make it so narrow that when someone needs exactly that, youâre the only name that comes up.â Nate B. Jones, AI strategist and product leader based in Seattle

Podcast corner: Endless Thread and 99% Invisible have teamed up for a series called Hidden Levels, about how video games have made the world around us. If only they could capture how theyâve made my heart. đ
British corner: This old-school, 1996 BBC segment about the making of GTA.

Aw bacon is so cute! give him lots of treats for me :)
Also in terms of feedback, nothing much needs to be change. I enjoy how concise and informative everything is. I guess I would like to learn more on how to make an impact as someone new and inexperienced. A lot of the roles you talk about are for senior employees and well I just want to know how to make up for my lack of expertise
Thanks for writing as always Jordan
